Preacher at the White House: The Intriguing Story of a Dream Fulfilled
by Robert L. Maddox
The midnight hour when Jimmy Carter was announced as the winner of the 1976 presidential election, Bob Maddox bought a paper with the headlines already in place: CARTER WINS! If we said it once, we said it a hundred times during those brief hours: "We just can't believe it." That would be much of my emotion for the next four years as my life became even more intimately intertwined with the Carter presidency.
The realization of Jimmy Carter's presidential dream inspired Bob Maddox to unwrap his own long-held, but undeclared, dream of working in the White House. Preacher at the White House is the story of that dream fulfilled. But the preacher at the White House had nightmares as some Christians impugned the faith of their born-again President because of his stnad on such issues as the Panama Canal and the B-1 bomber.
